Loaded width

The current rule table states 8 feet 6 inches general width, 8 feet for manufactured homes, and 14 feet height. Length is configuration-specific, not one generic overall number.

Trailer length

A semitrailer or trailer at or below 53 feet 6 inches has no ordinary tractor-combination overall cap under the rule; longer units interact with a 60-foot overall rule, reducibility, exceptions, double-unit dates and permit products.

Manufactured-home road permissions

Manufactured-home permits have a special statewide/local statutory treatment, while house moves preserve municipal/county rules. Product classification must precede the local-authority answer.

Loaded width

Published maximum permit envelopes are 20 feet non-Interstate and 18 feet Interstate; emergency short moves may reach 24 feet only at Permit Section discretion. These maxima are not routine automatic approvals, and width above 16 feet 6 inches separately enters superload review.

Larger-load review

Superload review starts at 180,000 pounds, more than 16 feet 6 inches wide, 100 feet or more long, or 15 feet 6 inches or more high. This review threshold is distinct from the separate 18-foot Interstate and 20-foot non-Interstate discretionary maximum permit envelopes.

Dimensional travel is generally NOAA daylight, with weekends allowed except restricted holidays. Overweight-only/legal-dimension and qualifying overlength-up-to-90-foot products may receive continuous treatment. Product rules and the verified permit can be stricter.

What the driver needs

Carry the permit

Carry the verified permit in the vehicle and present it for inspection. For a self-issued permit only, the original must be in the cab/driver possession or displayed electronically on a device with at least a seven-inch screen; a photocopy, fax or reproduction is invalid.

Manufactured housing

Act 256 defines a manufactured home unit as a movable dwelling, office or classroom structure more than 8 feet wide or 60 feet long. Each continuous move requires its product permit; ordinary cap is 16 feet 6 inches, emergency review applies above that, and no permit may exceed 18 feet.
