14′6″-wide load example
Example: 14′6″ wide × 13′ high, 75′ overall, 72,000 lb gross, zero overhang or rear projection, ordinary nondivisible freight in daylight. Depending on the road or permit conditions: On roads with fewer than four lanes, a rear escort is also required unless compliant warning lights are fitted to the towing vehicle and rear of the load. Superloads, including those classified by axle weight, and large structures cannot use this lighting substitute and need a rear escort on four-lane roads too. Depending on the road or permit conditions: Two-lane roads: 1 front pilot car. Multi-lane undivided roads: no pilot car from these dimensional triggers. Divided highways: no pilot car from these dimensional triggers.
17′6″-high load example
Example: 9′ wide × 17′6″ high, 75′ overall, 72,000 lb gross, zero overhang or rear projection, ordinary nondivisible freight in daylight. Above 16 ft high, a height pole must be used on an escort vehicle, set 3 in above the permitted load. Coordinate its position with the other required escorts; the height rule does not specify an additional vehicle count. Above 17 ft high, notify all appropriate utilities before moving.
