ODPERMIT / STATE FIELD GUIDE GA

GeorgiaOversize & overweight permits.

A Georgia machinery quote needs the loaded dimensions, axle arrangement and GAPROS permit product. Larger moves also need route and bridge preparation.

01

Legal size & loaded measurements

Loaded dimensions

Published Georgia baselines are 8 feet 6 inches width, 13 feet 6 inches height and 100 feet overall length including overhang; current code exceptions require configuration facts.

Axles, weight & bridges

Use gross, axle, group, spacing, road-system, bridge, registration, tire and tolerance facts; Georgia's 80,000-pound headline is not a complete weight decision.

Loaded width

Georgia's published legal width baseline is 8 feet 6 inches; current Title 32 and route restrictions control exceptions.

Loaded height

Georgia's published legal height baseline is 13 feet 6 inches; current code and permit conditions control exceptions.

02

Permits, routes & larger loads

Roads & authorities

Georgia DPS has statewide OS/OW responsibility, but local, toll, facility and road-owner restrictions remain separate and route-specific.

When a permit is needed

Any load or vehicle exceeding a legal Georgia limit needs the applicable permit before public-road movement; divisible loads are not accepted under the OS/OW guidance.

Larger-load review

Standard single, superload and annual products have different 2026 dimensions and weights; above 16 feet or 150,000 pounds requires superload/engineering review, not a generic envelope.

03

State permit fees

Single-trip agency fee example

$30 for this Georgia planning example: a nondivisible load measuring 8′7″ wide, 13′ high and 70′ overall, at 72,000 lb gross on a five-axle rig with a 48′ trailer. The example uses 100 in-state miles. Change the load details in the calculator for your move.

What the agency estimate includes

The calculator applies Georgia's maintained single-trip permit schedule to the loaded vehicle and the supplied fee inputs. It itemizes the supported state charges, including weight or distance charges where applicable. Annual permits, special products, local permissions and payment-method charges need their own applicable schedule.

About the example equipment

The samples use ODPermit’s editable 48 ft flatbed · 5 axles planning profile. Loaded dimensions, gross weight, 100 state miles and Texas registration are example inputs, not a capacity rating or a route approval. Replace them with your actual setup.

Great Dane Freedom trailer specifications48 ft platform; the illustrated 40 in drop deck and 20 in drop support a 60 in upper-deck planning height. Combined tare and tractor geometry are editable ODPermit assumptions.

04

Pilot cars, height poles & surveys

14′6″-wide load example

Example: 14′6″ wide × 13′ high, 75′ overall, 72,000 lb gross, zero overhang or rear projection, ordinary nondivisible freight in daylight. Depending on the road or permit conditions: Two-lane state roads: 1 civilian pilot car (1 front); rear pilot car OR approved amber lighting. Other multi-lane state roads: 1 civilian pilot car (1 rear). Four-or-more-lane divided state roads: 1 civilian pilot car (1 rear). Limited-access highways: no fixed civilian pilot-car count from these triggers; rear pilot car OR approved amber lighting.

17′6″-high load example

Example: 9′ wide × 17′6″ high, 75′ overall, 72,000 lb gross, zero overhang or rear projection, ordinary nondivisible freight in daylight. Depending on the road or permit conditions: At 15 ft 6 in high or above, use a front escort with a height sensor unless the hauler has a valid NJUNS trip approval ticket. An already-required front pilot car can carry the sensor; do not add a second front vehicle solely for height.

05

Travel hours & road restrictions

Travel hours

General permitted movement is 30 minutes after sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset, unless the issued permit states otherwise; house moves have a narrower window.

Current route restrictions

Check I-285 urban hours, 2026 holidays, fog/snow/ice, bridge clearances, posted bridges, route map and any permit-specific restrictions immediately before movement.

06

Signs, flags & safety equipment

Safety equipment

Use black-on-yellow/orange OVERSIZE LOAD signs, 18-inch flags, amber warning lights, radios, stop/slow paddles, high-visibility clothing and height sensors when required.

07

What the driver needs

Carry the permit

Carry the issued permit and follow its route, dates, hours, load description, insurance and conditions; the permit must be available for inspection.

Prepare the driver packet

The driver packet must match the issued permit and include route/bridge data, insurance proof, load description, escort information and current vehicle/load records.

08

Special equipment & permit programs

Special permit programs

Annual/NHS, seasonal, superload, house move, mobile equipment and emergency-wrecker products have distinct limits and conditions; do not infer one from another.
